Why Would I Need Tire & Wheel Protection?

One of the best things about leasing is at
the end of 3 or 4 years, you can turn your old vehicle in and get a new one. It’s also
why certain options, like tire and wheel road hazard protection for example, can be especially important. Because even though you don’t own the vehicle, when it comes time to turn it
back in, your lease agreement clearly spells out all of your financial responsibilities
at lease end. In fact, on the back of every lease agreement, there is a clause that says
something similar to this, I agree to pay you the costs of all repairs
to the Vehicle that are not the result of normal wear and use, whether or not you actually repair the vehicle. For example, let’s say your new 2015 Odyssey Touring model has the standard 18 inch factory alloy wheels- not even the $1200 optional
wheels. It also comes standard with four 235/60 R18 Goodyear low profile tires and compact spare. Unfortunately, when you that hit pothole on I-75 and damage the wheel and ruin the
tire, they are probably both going to have to be replaced, especially with low-profile
tires. With 78 series tires, we used to have this much room between the wheel and the road. Now we have this much room between the wheel and the road. At the end of your lease, when it’s time to turn your Odyssey in, all four tires must be of the same grade, quantity,
or quality as those delivered with the vehicle, with a minimum of 1/8″ tread. Should you have to replace even just one wheel and tire due to road hazard, you’re looking at $479 for
the wheel, $234 for the tire, plus mounting, balancing, valve stem, tire pressure monitor, disposal fee, sales tax, and shop supplies, for a little over $800. And that doesn’t even
include a front end alignment or nitrogen in the tire. When you’re leasing a vehicle,
that tire and wheel will have to be replaced. And you don’t want to buy any tires or wheels if you don’t have to, right?
