Tire Review: Ohtsu FP7000

(upbeat techno music) – Hey, what’s going on guys. Welcome to a new episode of Tire Talk. Andrew here with Fitment Industries. We are looking at the Ohtsu FP7000 today. So right off the bat I want to state that this is not a stance tire. You don’t stretch it. Run this thing at your proper size. Now, it’s also a budget tire. So of course we want to show
you the ultra high performance, nice summer tires and we
want to be able to show you the winter stuff in the winter. And then this is just a
classic all-season tire that’s at a great value. So to jump into this bad boy, this is going to be a
non-directional tire. So if we look at the tread pattern, you’ll see kind of a V shape
on one side swooping up and another V swooping down. So the good thing for you guys is that you don’t have
to rotate only one way just from front to back, you can actually flip the tire itself if you’re new to non-directional tires. So you’re gonna get extended
life out of this thing which is pretty cool, but it’s already an inexpensive tire. So one of the best things
about the Ohtsu lineup is that it is just simply
an inexpensive tire. Now, the Ohtsu brand falls
under the Sumitomo line which is also under Federal. So Federal is of course
the high performance brand. Ohtsu is more of the budget brand and they are owned by
Sumitomo Rubber Corporation from Japan. So it’s one of those controversial topics. How people are always going to ask how are the cheap Chinese tires? So I would basically rate
this in the same class as like a Nankang tire so I ran Nankangs and I loved ’em. I’ve rolled with in
peoples car with this tire. It’s really not a bad tire and if you actually cruise out there and look at reviews on it you’re gonna see a little
bit of mixed vibes. One negative thing I will say is it can be kind of noisy at high speeds. So just know that. But for a low-budget tire, just for something all season, let’s say you’re running maybe
like a 17, 16-inch wheel. You’re looking for more of
like a 40 series profile, I would recommend something like this. If you’re just looking for just
a daily cruise around tire. It’s not gonna be a track tire. It’s not a drift tire. It’s not a autocross tire. And do not stretch this thing. The sidewall on it is a lot stiffer. So it’s just an average,
basic, all-season tire. You can’t go wrong. It does come in 14 through
19-inch applications and depending on the size
and side ball and everything of course on the tire that you choose, you’re going to see a H,
V, and W speed ratings which would cover anything
from 130 up to 168. Another cool thing you’ll see on this tire is the massive evacuation channel
right down the middle here and then you’ll see the lateral sipes once again sweeping up, sweeping down, so that’s gonna help with
the water evacuation. This tire does do pretty good
in anything dry pavement, but of course once you get
into a little light rain and then, I’ve never personally
drove this one in snow, but I went out to see a lot of reviews. The snow sucks. I mean, it’s not a snow tire. Of course it’s an all season, but once again, they’re
not claiming for this to be an awesome tire in the snow. So if you look up close here, you will see the tire tread indicator. So you’ll see these little
circles punched in on here and then you’ll see, I’ll get a closeup. You can see kind of a level down and then another level down. So that’s gonna be a
very easy tread indicator just to use to see how much
life you have left on the tire, which is pretty cool. And life on these things seems
to actually be pretty good. Once again, for a budget

  2. I actually have these on my 3 series… pretty good tire for the money…the only complaint is the noise at higher speeds like he said…other than that good ride very comfortable for what they are

  3. Just an fyi, Falken was made in 1983 as Ohtsu's flagship performance brand. They're both owned by Sumitomo.

  4. Says don’t stretch but Im stretching these as 225/40 on my cosmis r1 18×9.5 and I haven’t had any issues

  5. Im running them right now on my 08 TLS and have little to no complaint. They look great they ride well for the cost and provide good enough grip in wet and dry conditions. My only issue is the possibility of low tire life because I have only been running these for 2 months after a 4 wheel alignment and see noticeable wear on the tires already but I hope its just me being anal 🙏

  6. Ohtsu is a horrible name for North America. They should brand them as Falken since so much has been spent to build the brand. Last I checked the Falken ZE512 were available under the Ohtsu brand.

  7. I sell the shit out of these at work as my low cost performance tire. They actually have awesome grip for what you're paying for. They do fine in the rain too

  8. Hey guys, what about doing a “tyre showdown” segment where you compare for e.g nitto neogen . Nankang & Toyo. Discuss which is best for stance/ stretching in your opinion, wet and dry handling and breaking and overall thread ware. Keep up the good work, the videos are very informative 👊🏾

  9. I ran these on my drift car… 6 laps from a low hp car. And i heat cycled them. I dont approve for drifting.

  10. Had these on my 2002 dodge magnum and I thought they did great. I had to buy 2 replacement tires due to our crappy roads from a local shop and ordered another set of these first chance I got. They were cheap and they lasted real well. I can attest that they do suck in the snow given the car was a rear wheel drive car and they are inherently bad in conditions like that

  12. #1 It's Falken not Federal.
    #2 This tire used to be branded as the Falken Ziex ZE329. I had them on my old 1996 Honda Accord. They performed flawlessly on that car in that size (195-65-15 if I remember correctly) and I never experienced noise at any speed.
    #3 It's not a Chinese tire, it's made in Indonesia and designed in Japan.

  13. I love Ohtsu tires, I had them on my Probe for four years and couldn't find any last spring when I replaced them so I went with Atlas Redhawks…I have less than 100 miles on the Redhawks and will be replacing them with another set of FP7000's

  14. I got lil baby stretch with theses 225,40,18 with a wheel of 18.9.5 30 offset They look perfect and stretched easy my buddy did it no problem

  15. I have five cars and I am going to eventually replace the tires on them with this brand it is excellent. I'm in mostly a dry climate in the Southwest I have driven it since know briefly it did very well it does 85 miles an hour in the rain on a Volvo XC70. They are quiet and they grip well. Very reasonable treadwear.

  16. Among all budget tires, Ohtsu offers the best in daily driving performance and longevity. I have tried Nankang and GT Radial. None of those lasts as long as Ohtsu tires.

  17. Does anybody out there know what these tires do as far as mileage wear or warranty? Haven't seen any info on that on multiple sites.

  18. I ran these through the winter on my 07 impreza wagon. And I can say that if you're an experienced driver they work in the snow in the Adirondacks
