Squealing Tires = Strong Solidarity!

(upbeat music) (car revving) (cars revving) – This event today,
what we’re trying to do, is build solidarity within
our union, Local 1066. We decided to do a drag
day to bring people out. We found out that there’s a
lot of guys and their families that are into racing. – We get outside of the plant. We get out here together and
we learn who each other are. In the plant, all I know
is somebody’s a crane man. Out here, I see a father, I
see a mother with children, I see aunts and uncles. Out here, we’re a family. – Getting to know each
other outside of work and getting to know each
other’s wives, kids, husbands, things that really make
you wanna stick together with that person you’re working with. (upbeat music) (car revving) – The union is a family. They look at you, that’s why
we say, brother and sister, because it truly is. – Solidarity, absolutely. It’s just a way for all the Steelworkers to get together and
showcase what they’ve got and it’s a brotherhood. – I wanted to celebrate through
the solidarity of the USW. I was a member for 35 years. It makes you feel like
you’re a part of something that’s important. There’s a lot of things in
life that you can go through, but you sometimes have
to do it by yourself. You’re never alone when
you’re with the USW or with the solidarity of the union. (cars revving) – Well I’m gonna go out here
and take my granddaughter down the drag strip for the first time, just let her see what it’s like, in case she wants to get into it later on. This is great. This is really great. I mean, they’re getting to where they’re accommodating everybody. – In 20 years from now,
hopefully it’ll be our kids planning this same union event, 20 years from now at this racetrack. So, tying the community to what we do, it’s a win win for all of us. In three years, we’re going back to another contract
negotiation with a company that can be very ruthless, so the stronger we are
now and we keep building, the better off we’ll be in three years. (car revving) – We’re real proud of all
of our local leadership and our event planning
committee and our membership. Really worked real hard today
to put together an event that our membership can get behind and come out and enjoy themselves and build some solidarity
outside of the plant where we’re always working together, but just spend some time together and enjoy the day outside of the plant and get to know each
other outside of work. (car revving)
