  1. Amazon effect???  That might not be the whole story.  Another very possible reason Americans are unaware of is that the provincial government of Ontario, Canada raised their minimum wage on January 1st to $14.00 an hour from $11.60, a 21-per-cent jump, bringing Ontario into line with the high minimum wages in other parts of Canada.  The Canadian economy is doing very well.  All Walmart employees in Canada are enjoying these high minimum wages and the Ontario minimum wage is projected to increase to $15.00 an hour in 2019.  News travels fast from Canada to Walmart employees in the U.S..  So, Walmart in the U.S. "coincidentally" raised  wages for their employees/associates to $11.00 (USD) an hour.  All of this could be a major reason for the closing of 63 Sam's Club stores.  Cutbacks are necessary to cover the cost of the wage increases and this is apparently what is happening with Sam's Club.
