Justeen遇上西雅圖 Day 2 | 星巴克傳說 | 最古老市場 | 犀利圖書館

This is my Airbnb A cozy bed and a fireplace, but it’s not working This is the front door and a giant mat right after you walk in The door is facing a staircase. I have not gone up, so I don’t know what’s there. The dinning room is even more simple. A table and an apple. The apple is fake, by the way. Stoves. We are not going to use any, as an Airbnb guest, right? And other basic supplies That’s about it. It’s quite comfy. Give it a like. Now I am going to Starbucks to get some breakfast. It finally rains today. The street is all slippery. This is University Way, and it means exactly the same thing. Oh? There is a Starbucks here, so did I miss it already? Back to the street. The street has many shops and restaurants for (UW) students to hang out. Now at Starbucks. Homework time. It seems like the rain is quite heavy, so I am stuck here. Look! So colorful! It looks it it just got painted, but it looks great. You can’t find many places that has this kind of color and style. Seattle does seem magical. Seattle was sunny yesterday because it was greeting me. This is what Seattle usually is like. Very cloudy. Layers of thick clouds. See up there? Arriving downtown Seattle, I feel like it is kind of similar to New York. Because it has got shops and high rises on both sides of the street. Another Starbucks. The entire Seattle is defined by all the Starbucks. Walking for two blocks, I find some patterns about the city. At the intersection of two street, the shop/mall is always one of those big brands. This is Target. The one we passed by was Ross The other one over there is Macy’s Yep, I am going to talk about this Starbucks. This one is one of the oldest Starbucks. You can take a look at the details of the logo. Speaking of Starbucks, the “oldest”/”most original” Starbucks was actually closed. A friend of mine from Seattle told me that. The truth/myth about the original. This Starbucks is at the corner, which was exactly the pattern I was talking about. Behind me it’s the Public Market Center the oldest market that is still in business It started in 1907, so it’s 100 years since it opened, which grants its “oldest” title. What they sell inside is mainly what you can expect from farmers market Let’s go take a look! This section has more handcraft stuff. Babies’ clothes Handmade toys T-shirt print making Walets Bags Paintings This Starbucks…has got a long line. There is a small break but then people queue up right after that I think this is the most “original” Starbucks that my friend told me one that is actually moved and renovated But either way, it could be just a gimmick All they want is you keep spending money There are a lot of people behind me. So what happened is that the tour bus was stuck on the ramp. The tires are skidding so it’s not moving at all Kinda funny 😅 Can’t help crossing the street because it has got a good view here There is a Ferris wheel here Then you see the entire river An expressway underneath Then you look beyond the structure and enjoy the whole river Awesome! So you see the bird over there “The lamp is mine!” says the bird This view is great, but if you look across facing the river It’s still an amazing city view You can see the bus is still here 🤣 I have no idea how they are going to get that out of there It’s very nice to take a walk here If you are tired, there are benches This is a cheese shop so they have a machine to make cheese, like an open tour live street music *?* The world has a lot for us to discover I want to talk about this sign for so long What is it trying to say? The dad is leaving the son and the mom is chasing after and say no? Photos were not allowed inside, but I have bought something to show Here it is It’s an ad from 1949 It has the tomato soup can It symbolizes the boom of mass media and pop culture around 1949 Since new forms of media emerged, such as films and televisions so companies harnessed these platform to promote and advertise consumerism It was by Andy Warhol a famous pop artist and designer that did this packaging design for the can It means quite a lot, especially I am not studying media design so it’s worth buying one I got caught taking photos 😛, so I left Now it’s around 6PM and the market is closing It closes quite early, but it’s also getting dark, so it kinda makes sense There is actually a lot to see here You could spend a whole day here including the nearby areas This building is interesting ha! Look! The bottom curves inward It’s like a rocket that is about to launch This is Seattle Public Library A classic piece of modern architecture It’s designed by Rem Koolhaas from Netherland He also designed the CCTV Tower in Beijing His design is characterized by heavy use of straight lines, sharp edges, and angles. elements that feels tough and angular Unfortunately it’s night time now so it’s not very visible but you can kinda see some x-shape structures here roughly Another interesting thing is this cantilever roof structure It could reflect the lights from the street so when the light turns green, and here we go you can see some flowing lights moving along that surface The designer does have got some cool ideas like a roof could be done in this way as if the sky is resonating with the ground
