If You Have These Car Mods You’re Stupid

If You Have These Car Mods You’re Stupid

rev up your engines, today I’m going to
talk about the worst car modifications that people have done over time and you
might be surprised by some of them because some of the cosmetic ones that
you can do might end you up on the wrong side of the law while mechanical ones
might not be any problems at all legally and here I’m gonna talk about the nine
worst car modifications as far as I’m concerned now not surprisingly car modifications
came about soon after they started making cars to make them go faster or to
make them cheaper to produce and of course later the modifications are
purely for speed for the moonshine runners that have all been to NASCAR and
for guys like Bonnie and Clyde who used them to rob banks with of
course the bank robbers wanted speed and agility the moonshiners wanted speed too
but they needed even more they needed to be able to stand the harsh terrain where
they’re going over dirt roads with really heavy loads of moonshine and of
course today a lot of stuffs done for style like lowrider so here’s some of
the dumbest ones as far as I’m concerned and the first one are those scissors
doors on regular cars now the first ones one Alfa Romeos you couldn’t even get
them on a lowly Ford for $1,000 extra you can get one on a Ford Focus really one
spend money so you can exit your car in a weird fashion it isn’t all that
comfortable it’s kind of fitting that the Italians are the first one to really
produce them because it is certainly form over function
yeah they look cool but it’s more of a pain getting in and out creates problems
as they break they often get water leaks a dumb thing to do no they’re not stupid
modifications are these crazy air foils that they put on cars real air spoilers
on a vehicle the race cars use them for dynamics if you know anything about
aerodynamics some cars are going really fast they almost turn into a plane and
they want to fly but you take like a forming on one car it’s got so much body
contours with wind that theoretically those things could drive upside down
they’d have enough downforce that they could drive on a road that was upside
down and they would push them up and suck them up at least that’s what the
engineers tell me I didn’t drive I guess we should do that you know maybe Top
Gear or some make a track work looks like that goes and see if they can
actually drive it upside down I’d like to see that now here’s the spoiler on my
94 Celica it’s not outrageous the car came with it but really it serves no
purpose this thing doesn’t go fast enough to need one it does look better
than it without one know if you see some spoilers people put the back of their
cars bolt on clunky looking things I just get carried away it turned into
show when I was young the giant tail fins that they put on cars and
eventually the Cadillac said these humongous giant tail fins it’s just a
silly thing to do when you start putting these giant things on cars especially
they’re never gonna go on a racetrack now the next mods I think are silly are the
neon lights some of these cars look like an ad for a casino but they’re
really getting carried away with some them now of course you’re not hurting
anyone with these lights other than maybe you’re hurting people’s artistic
sensibility it’s kind of a silly thing to do really when you think about it now
one modification I find especially annoying is the rolling coal exhaust
that these guys will put on their diesel trucks and modify them so that whenever
they want they can throw giant billows of smoke out like they’re in an old coal
train and of course I know some guys are stuff like that and they just wanna make
fun of environmentalist if they see a green sticker and a Toyota Prius they’ll
often turn the things on that’s just kind of crazy I mean we’re not
four-year-olds driving vehicles at least we’re not supposed to act that way now
the next one I always get a laugh are fake air intakes and faux hood scoops that
aren’t really connected anything but they’re sitting there it reminds me years
ago working on a customer hood bought a
used car it was called the Chrysler TC by Maserati and then that was the fakest
car I ever saw I jack it up it’s got dual exhaust and I look now one side
there’s an exhaust that’s connected to the car and the other side was just
think in a pipe and then it went up and didn’t go anywhere it was completely
packed and these fake hood scoops and faked air intakes I’m fooling anybody
really and then action modification is extreme height just raising vehicles
higher and higher here in Houston there’s a whole bunch of multi-level
parking lots so many things won’t even fit in
they’re so tall take the Hummer h1 I mean it’s a military vehicle there’s no
reason to be driving it in the street it’s too wide it’s too tall and people
just keep raising them and to do a counterpoint to that extreme lowering of
cars that’s stupid too, now why race cars are low cuz the lower you are the better
they handle on the ground and guess what race cars do they race around on professional
tracks that are perfectly made but don’t have potholes you get a lower car and
you’re driving in the streets of Houston customers kids did that to a Chevy Tahoe
of all things so here’s this Tahoe the scraping on the ground every time he
goes over a speed bump and of course he put those low profile tires and every
time he hit some rack the tire half the time wreck the rim he didn’t own the
tires of wheels he went through those places where you rent them and part of
the rental was an insurance payment so every time he broke one he just driving
and they’d have to give him another one free and a new tire cuz he had an
insurance policy for it so I guess if you’re gonna do something dumb like that
at least buy the insurance for it so you can keep getting new ones free without
having to pay the full price because you got insurance for it but really unless
you’re racing cars on the track lowering them they ride like crap I got Customer
some of those I’ll drive around the block that’s yeah it feels like the
feelings of my teeth are gonna fall out every time he had a bump and the next
modification is bizarre wheels I seen them all some of these the wheels almost
as tall as the car they’re just ridiculous looking things and of course that ruins
the handling of a vehicle they were not made for that there are engineers who
designed these things with computers so that the tire size and the wheel size
matches the suspension of the car and the transformation you start putting
that stuff on Man Alive they ride like crap but I guess people
want to look like they’re in a giant Tonka toy driving down the road and of
course my favorite is the guys that have those wheels and I see them in Houston
they have extenders on the wheels like they’re in a Roman chariot and they’re
gonna be riding down so the little twirler can eat up the spokes of the car
next to them for their little chariot race they’re having,
the other day I saw one it was a cadillac had this big old piece sticking out
spinning around I mean it’s dangerous if they’re gotten
downtown they could cut some of these legs off they took a corner too fast and
there is a pedestrian there I don’t ask crazy modifications limo tents and
window graphics I got a real peeve against them myself because this is
Texas a lot of people carry guns in their glove box if the police are
pulling somebody over and they got this deep tint they don’t know what’s going
on inside that car I know it’s against the law for a certain percentage here
in Texas for sure but nobody enforces the law they don’t really care about it but
that is dangerous some idiots driving like a moron you come up to see who it
is and they got the windows tinted so darkly you can’t see who was in there
you got to be able to see you is driving a car it’s just not safe for everyone, although
knowing people odds are their gonna get more gaudy as time goes on, so if you
never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos, remember to ring that

  2. I was going to buy the world's most boring gold ES350 but some wacky guy with his name on his shirt bought it…so I just tinted my windows.

  3. I hated the fast and furious era of body kits and neon and fart cans but now I kinda miss it. Diversity is cool! Do whatever makes you happy

  4. Having low cars in nyc bad idea the roads here are meant for those mods. Car could get stuck in a dinosaur pothole or moon craters and the lumps are like the lumps on the coyotes head after bugs bunny wacks him a few times here in NYC there a lot of people who drive their car on their roofs how it is possible haven’t figured it out yet I would have to see it. For my own eyes

  5. The one I can’t understand is wide rim narrow tire. I’m waiting to see someone roll that tire rite off the rim when they go around a sharp corner. LoL

  6. Well Scotty, to each is own. I am not into some of these mods but there different strokes for different folks. It's no different then people wearing then pants around there knees or gold teeth or some woman with a fancy pers.

  7. Sorry, but if you're a guy driving a prius, you have no testicles, and are not a guy… So, disregard the "if you're a guy driving a prius" remark. You're just a teen girl.

  8. Spoilers differ from wings in that they are meant to spoil the airflow and prevent the air from tumbling behind the car in a vortex creating drag.

Wings catch uninterrupted air to create force downward.

Roads may suck in the USA but elsewhere the roads are smooth so it's okay to have low profile tyres depending on where you live.

  9. hi Scotty Kilmer, i’m glad i have done (almost) no mods you critized XD. That being said, i would work with you anytime as your mechanic in training. I would take criticism from you anytime (i would probably write them up on a picture and get you to sign them anyways). I would also gladly accept insults from Jesse James and Chip Foose. hell if i could i would work for this guy for free.

I did stretch the elastic of what’s mechanically possible a few times but it was always purposeful.

(btw i can be a funny guy, even with sooth in my hands and sh*t hits the fan XD)

    have a good one

  10. So you don’t understand down force you don’t understand the necessary reason for having a lifted vehicle even tho hundreds of them rescue people I was actually in Huston for Harvey you think under glow dose not help visibility you obviously don’t work on any diesels the more power they make the more cole the role either that or they are broken 😂 man your opinions suck sometimes

  11. Well Scotty I guess to each his own. My uncle was an aeronautical engineer and as a youngster I was always asking him about how things work, you know the how's, why's and all. Firstly he was a mechanical engineer. He told me exactly what you said. That being you don't want to exceed your design limitations. Good stuff, humorous entertaining and solid advise as always. Keep on keeping on!! You're the best.

  12. Hey Scotty! If you want to fit in take the bus! I still love your channel even though you offended my turbo diesel coal stacker.

  13. If police pull over a vehicle with tint they can over loud speaker tell them to roll down all windows. They do it here in California.

  14. From my experience the spoilers do help at 110mph +. A lot of these cars nowadays do this speed easily. The comparison I experienced was with a 67 Goat and my 78 Firebird, the Firebird had sloped front end and a fairly large factory spoiler in the back, and from 110 up to 160 the faster you went the more it pushed you down onto the road and it felt stable. The Goat, once you reached 110 it would start to float and feel very dangerous. More recently my 2006 Honda civic coup has a sloped front end which helps alot but the miniature spoiler in the back feel lacking when you reach these speeds. Granted it doesn't need a giant spoiler, but a few more inches would probably help a lot. (that's what she said)

  15. Hi Scotty, need ur help to answer this question: I have 2015 jeep wrangler 6sp manual transmission with v6 pentastar petrol with 41000kms on the clock. I wanted to trade in for 2010 Tayota Landcruiser 76 series with v8 diesel engine( australia version) with 160k kms on it. What do u suggest? should i get a 2010 toyota with 160k kms on it or keep the Jeep wrangler for some more time ? plz plz plz plz clarify.

  16. If my car feels like it's rumbling…… Is it time for a tuneup? Tires great. Oils always synthetic on time. Chevy 2015 Sonic, 60,000 mls.

  17. Dahnt put the low tires ahhhn! You could hit a paht hole and can't drive ahhn! Who duz daht to dat carrr dare? I mean come ahhhn! Ya could hit dah pahht hole so bad da carrr could end yup on the ruff!

  18. The tint is nothing to worry about.. Especially if you are living in a hot country.. The darker the tint the cooler the car is.. My cars alway midnight dark every window except the the 2 front doors.. And the like 50% Kaz anything darker u won't be able to see the mirrors at night. In a dark spot

  19. I have actually run tubes from a location that get outside temp air up to the air inlet. On an 08 f150 with a k&n intake, I ran one from the upper and lower bumper gap up to the intake tube. I was getting outside temp air while moving. While sitting at lights, the intake temp went up like it normally would. BUT the intake air cooled off A LOT faster than it did without the tube. I now have it done on my 06 monte carlo. Tube runs from the access panel for the fog lights under the bumper and up against the factory inlet tube behind the headlight. I also did tests. If you drive somewhere and shut off the car, the temperature under the hood goes up pretty high. About 160+ actually. With and without the helper tube, that heat gets sucked into the intake tube. In both cases, the intake tube is also heat soaked. Without the tube, it took about 5 minutes for the intake temperature to drop while driving thru town including being heavy on the throttle a few times to try to suck in air quickly. Also the lowest the intake temperature would go was 17 degrees above the outside(aka ambient) temperature. WITH the tube, the temperature dropped quite a bit quicker and also goes down to only 8 degrees above ambient. And on the freeway going 65, that intake temperature drops to only 2 degrees above whereas without the tube ran about 10 degrees above ambient. On the f150, I noticed the truck was less hesitant when hitting the throttle while at speed(was also a 5spd manual). The monte carlo I dont notice any difference in the driving but know the cooler air is better for it. I recommend to everyone to look up a scangauge 2(also saw them at autozone). You can transfer it from vehicle to vehicle, it reads about 20 different sensors, can show any 4 at a time, can keep track of how much you pay at the pump, performance timers, and also it is a code reader. The ONLY vehicles it doesnt work well on are vehicles with any sort of cylinder deactivation. I had a 14 hemi ram and it read some things but others were wrong from the cylinder deactivation. One of the first things you do is set the engine size. Deactivating cylinders technically changes the used displacement so it reads wrong. I now have a 15 challenger so I cant use it on that but my 06 monte carlo and my 04 ram are good to go. They are about $160 and honestly I think they are worth it.

  20. One of the things I hated about our Pontiac Vibe was the factory low profile tires. The is very little air in a low profile tires, so keeping the tires at the right pressure was hard, getting too close to a curb, or hitting a pot hole could ruin the rim easily, and even hitting small bumps made a much louder sound than it would have with more sidewall as a cushion.

  21. You have a problem with window tint? Seriously? Come to phoenix arizona, and youll see why limo tint is a necessity for if you park outside in the sun.

  22. I always found extreme lower cars looked stupid. Back in 2002 is was a huge thing and I always thought it looked dumb. Not to mention stuff always scraping the bottom because they're too low. Some styles are just stupid! This was one of them.

  23. Agreed on the lowering. Honda has started doing this with their cars and it's annoying. So much road noise.

Buuuut the neon lights sound pretty cool… within moderation, of course.

  24. Rear wings work well for lightweight cars, from 500kg up to 1200kg in GT3 racing for example. Beyond that the efficiency is not that good. Adding 70kg on the rear axle that weights 800kg is not the same as adding 100kg to a 400kg rear axle. For cars that go over 200kph a medium wing can help for stability in a straight line otherwise it could take off or over 300kph become unstable.

  25. Had a friend once spray painted his car windows and back glass black. The top and bottom of the front window was also painted. To this day i still wonder how he drove the thing

  26. The irony of Scotty complaining that limo tint doesn't let cops see inside your vehicle while he has a large "LIVE FREE OR DIE" banner across his garage. 😉

  27. I would like to remind people that factory spoilers on cars do actually serve a purpose because it is something that cost extra to put on the car which lowers the profit margin factory spoilers help to stable as your car at higher speeds going down the road as well as most of them also hope to redirect airflow behind your car to reduce the century effect and you can almost starch and Ellis that at city speeds you start getting the effect of that with the spoiler starting at 30 miles an hour and what it does is it helps to redirect airflow behind the car to reduce the aerodynamic drag which helps with fuel economy and acceleration I have friends who have sports cars such as Mitsubishi 3000 G t's And they do regular daily commutes and that include some highway miles they took the spoiler off the car and drove it like that for a few weeks and they said they could notice a difference and handling the car was not as stable on the highway without the spoiler the factory spoiler as well as they did have a noticeable decrease in fuel economy from the car but they said since they don't drive the car hard all the time or even hardly ever they did not notice a performance decrease in the card just because they already drove around and the performance they are acquired left then with plenty of power to spare in the 1st place but if you were out racing the car pushing it to its limits all the time you would also notice your lap times and drag times would go down On cars like this by removing the factory spoiler But there are manufacturers out there who do these factory spoilers just to make the car seem and look sportier than it actually is such as General Motors if the spoiler has a plane surface were part of the spoiler is up above the trunk laid or rear hatch of the car and air can actually flow through there and it is a factory spoiler then it actually does serve a purpose for improving the aerodynamics of the car both for reduced drag and increased high speed stability but if it's one like you see on a Chevrolet Camaro that is just a sweeping design off of the back of the car and it follows the contour and just changes the contour of the car but air does not flow between the car and it then those do not serve any purpose except for even those do help to create a little bit of down force Which can help with traction when you're moving down the road on the highway but you have to have an incredibly powerful car to need that and the extra down force does actually can help with stability a little bit as well but the spoilers that heavy surface that separated and actually can properly redirect the air serv more of a function then the ones that stay streamline to the body surface.

  28. Scotty comes across as a guy thats full of information but gets frustrated with more technical tasks . which is why he doesnt want to deal with European cars or modern cars

  29. Scotty, Mercedes did it in their AMG SLR, you should look it up. They actually did a circle in a tunnel. Aero works, air foils
