How to Get Your Car to Pass the Emissions Test for Free

one, two, three, four! Rev up your engines! It’s time for the Scotty Kilmer Channel if your car just failed the emissions testing
because you’ve got a P0420 code, in this case, the check engine light is on, and it’s P0420 catalyst inefficient, then I’ve got a trick for you that often works and
you get your car inspected without spending any money, you get a scan
tool and select erase codes, and put yes you want to erase the codes, then you go
down to drive cycle monitor and click OK, and you’ll notice that there’s 4 figures
here, these are mil not ready, it means that the computer won’t let you inspect
the car until there’s only 1 or 0 of these codes left, this is a 2005, and it
can only have one of these mil not ready’s up to get it inspected, if it was 2000
or earlier, you’d be able to pass with 2 mils not ready, but this is a 2005, so it
has to have just one mil not ready, and it can be inspected, so we’re going to start
it up, and drive the car little while on the highway, as we drive the car the
computer checks everything, and if it gets down to just 1 mil not ready, we can
quick go get it inspected and not have to worry about that stupid code, then as you
drive the car, you hope that they start to disappear, in this case, now there’s
only three left, we only need two more to disappear, but after driving it on the
highway for about 20 minutes, now all of the monitors have reset, and we can get
it inspected, now the P0420 code means that the catalytic converter is working
at less than 95% efficiency, and hey I probably work at less than 95%
efficiency too, and I’m not worried about it, customers that have this code drive the car five or six years more, no problem, the
car runs fine so why spend a bunch of money on a cat, heck I had a customer
they had a car they had four catalytic converters on it, would have cost over
3,200 bucks to change them all, so resetting it I got it inspected and runs fine, so
everyone’s happy, so if your car fails the inspection test,
why not try resetting the computer first and taking it for a drive, you never know it
might pass, and remember if you have any car questions just visit the Scotty Kilmer
